DX Ball 2 is an arcade style game where the player must use their paddle, located at the bottom of the screen, to direct a ball to hit and destroy a number of blocks higher on the screen. At the beginning of the game, the player has only a default ball and paddle, but several power-ups can be acquired to make these items more effective. Levels become harder as the player completes them, opening up new challenges in the form of different blocks to break and more difficult level designs.

A simple game in terms of graphics, DX Ball 2 focuses more on wild and frantic gameplay to delight the user. An upbeat electronic music soundtrack keeps the player in the zone while the clear, simple graphics let them know exactly what is going on at the time. Upgrades found in game range from extra balls to a bigger paddle to lasers that fit on the player's paddle to help break blocks. Easily learned controls allow players of all ages to get in the game without memorizing tedious amounts of keys.

While this is an excellent choice for the classic gamer, there are some downsides that may affect other users' opinions of the game.

  • Very accessible gameplay. Players can easily jump right in with no prior knowledge.
  • Simplistic graphics. DX Ball 2 can run on computers with lesser graphic or processing power.
  • Kid mode. If the player finds the gameplay too difficult, there is a special mode to practice on.

  • Simple graphics. Gamers looking for next generation graphics will not find them here.
  • Repetitive gameplay. DX Ball 2 expands upon itself, but as the game goes on the core play remains the same.
  • Keyboard control. Some players may not be comfortable using just a keyboard for playing their games.
